Facebook’s New Feature called Super-Friends

Facebook is getting complicated. The social network just introduced the category of “trusted friend,” not to be confused with the prior categories of “close friends,” “acquaintances,” “restricted” buddies, and authorized stalkers. Trusted friends are like super-friends.
They have special powers!

If you get locked out of your Facebook account, three to five “Trusted Friends” can send you access codes.

20% of Facebook ‘news feed’ posts are all malware

According to data from security company BitDefender, there’s harmful content behind about 20 percent of posts on a Facebook news feed.

BitDefender said about 60 percent of attacks on Facebook stem from threatening third-party apps, according to a report in the Register. About 22 percent of the offending apps claim to tell you who has been snooping on your profile, 15 percent tout extras in social games like Farmville, 11 percent offer counterfeit advertisements for a “dislike” button, and 7 percent focus on social iterations of console games like “Super Mario Brothers.”

Facebook is expected to enable location sharing in its users’ News Feeds, a move that could automatically make the social network the dominant platform for location-based Web services. Twitter already has a geolocation feature that has been spotted in the wild. Meanwhile, social location upstart Foursquare will offer a free analytics tool and dashboard to give business owners information and statistics about visitors to their establishments. Google is also heavily invested in the future of location and social networking.

Facebook is expected to enable location sharing in its users’ News Feeds, a move that could automatically make the social network the dominant platform for location-based Web services.

A March 9 report in the New York Times cited sources saying Facebook would announce the news at its F8 developer conference, slated for April 21 and 22 in San Francisco.

The First Tweet from Space

Tweeting is no longer only an earthly phenomenon.

A NASA astronaut made Twitter history on Friday by sending the first tweet from outer space. Flight Engineer T.J. Creamer broadcast the following message directly from the International Space Station:

“Hello Twitterverse! We r now LIVE tweeting from the International Space Station — the 1st live tweet from Space! More soon, send your ?s”
